Waterboys

Not the greatest photograph of the stretch of water between the island of Gili Trawangan and Lombok but a picture that will stay in my memory for a long time. Cairo is somewhere below the surface. I still can’t quite get my head round the experience of watching my eleven year old son complete his first open water dive. I was the cat on the hot tin roof on top of the dive boat as I anxiously scanned the water for the best part of an hour. Mixed feelings ranging from irresponsibile dad, as the hour dragged on, to total admiration as he surfaced.

We have had a wonderful week on Gili Trawangan. Lovely hotel with three cats especially for Lucas. The boys surfed, swam and  went snorkeling almost on a daily basis. Saw some amazing fish and turtles. Bit like swimming in the doctor’s surgery fish-tank back in Dundee. We arrived back in Jakarta today sun-kissed, with sand spilling out of our bags all over the apartment floor and with some great memories.

  1. Wow! Sounds like and looks like you had an absolutely fantastic holiday – beats the rain in Scotland any day. Hope you threw a penny into the pond with the hope that you will return.

  3. And his mum and dad didn’t go with him! Looks great and nice and warm in contrast to the start of winter here in Aviemore. First snow fell on the hills last week and more is forecast for the village next week.
