Flying Visit

What a lovely surprise!

My friend Diana phoned me at the start of this week to say that she was coming to Sharm El Sheik for a week and she would like to pop up to Cairo to visit us for the day – and she came today. We spent the day at the pyramids and got the closest we have been to the Sphinx (not very close, as you can see.) It was so enjoyable to have her here and hear all her news. (She brought magazines for the boys and Cairo’s favourite chewing gum, which was an added bonus.) The city was very co-operative with, luckily, hardly any traffic and the only complaint was that it was very windy at the Pyramids so we all got a tad sand blasted.

I loved working with Diana at Alness Academy. She was the school cook and although I ate many of her yummy dinners (and far too many puddings) we became friends when we both started to work on the School Nutrition Action Group. Together with lovely Susan from Home Economics and fabulous Jill from PE we turned the school dinners system around so that the number of children who ate school dinners increased dramatically. They were, I guess, our ‘Glory Days’ as the food was not only superb but superbly healthy. Within a year Diana had weaned the pupils off chips and they didn’t even notice. Diana ran theme days, gained the Healthy Choices Award and worked incredibly hard to achieve a consistently high standard of food. She left Alness the same time as I did and she now runs her own business. This gives her time to travel outwith school term times and that’s why she was free to visit us. Please come again Diana!
