Bumped and Dumped On

Filed under: Mercedes — scotsabroad @ 7:54 pm

Our poor car has been seriously abused over the last fortnight. Last Saturday I parked it on Road 9. Admittedly it was in a tight space and I intentionally left the hand brake off to allow for some man-handling if other cars needed some room to move out. I had forgotten the power of an expat in a 4WD. Forget being able to scale those wadi dunes, I’ve got bullbars (along with yellow number plates) and immunity in Maadi to smash up the back of this old ( but still elegant) Mercedes. What a twat whoever you are. The disappointing thing was there was no closure, no release of anger, a curse or a punch. No note of apology, nothing. Whoever it was just hit my car for as long as it took to get out. I just returned to find the car damaged and the parking attendant on this patch not daring to approach.

Our landlord has been in Cairo over the summer. He has been getting the floor above us built for his daughter to live and study in the city and the roof finished. Our garden was open to the general public all summer and we were disappointed to find things broken and missing. Even the boy’s bikes had been fiddled with, someone trying to swap the chains over! Today the tilers on the roof decided to wash their work to date, sending a lot of water down the waste pipe from a great height. This put pressure on the waste pipe in the garage at a section above my car. Yes, a knock at the door signalled a spray of water falling on the back of the car that is not water resistant, even before the back end was shunted. Drying out nicely.

Poor us. Not. Still so much to be thankful for and still good to be back.

  1. Indeed, lots to be thankful for!

Seeing horrible pictures here of the rock fall down near Nasr city (?). Planet of Slums.

  2. Now if you had a camel I am sure that would not have caused the same difficulty, don’t they spit back?
