Signing off until August

Filed under: Holidays — scotsabroad @ 3:09 pm

We say farewell to Ali and Vero tonight as they fly back to Dublin. We will not be far behind, making our way to terminal 3 early Sunday morning and our flight to Glasgow. We all went to Al Azhar Park last Monday and I think our pictures tell of a happy and relaxed family and we hope a memorable visit for Shona’s brother and Vero. They browsed the Khan al Khalili bazaar that night and bargained expertly for souvenirs. On Tuesday we set off for Ras Sudr and the Moonbeach resort. It is a major windsurfing/kitesurfing location in Egypt but also a great place to relax and enjoy the sea and sun. Ali and Vero were great with the boys and they all enjoyed playing in the water using some old windsurfing boards. Cairo was very adventurous and had a couple of windsurfing lessons. He is now very keen to get further lessons. Lucas just loved the water. We returned last night tired but happily weathered. A leisurely start this morning saw us travel downtown on the Metro to the Egyptian Museum. Our family visited the Royal Mummies rooms this time round. Expensive on top of the entrance fee but well worth it. Popped in to King Tuts room just to make sure his treasure was still there. Incredible museum that still leaves you speechless even after half a dozen visits. A memorable last weekend.

I hope we will return ready for another year living in this wonderful country and brilliant city. There is still so much to see and do. Today I bought a new book written by Lesley Lababidi called, Cairo Street Stories (Exploring the City’s Statues, Squares, Bridges, Gardens and Sidewalk Cafes). Have pity on my tolerant, accomodating wife and boys come August. Until then I’m sure we will meet with most of you in the next seven weeks. We will be back here before we know it. Enjoy the summer folks.

  3. finally managed to access the site hurrah!!,will get the link to Jack & Ross and will drop you a couple of photos. im really sorry that we didint catch up whilst you were back in gods country. i didnt get back from Italy until last week in July and had 101 things to catch up on (inc house extension/new kitchen which Lorna has been managing on her own all summer). I also had to go to Leeds to sort of my work situation. I am now based in Leeds for next 9 months and should hopefully go back to Scotland after that (possible not definite).as you know the brooce concert was very very good, 1st 30 mns or so sound a bit muffly however he played blinded by the light about 6 songs in as a request and it flew from there. crowd good not great, would have been better with you and Shona in attendance ( you seem to have become a serial absentee from the great mans coronations!!!). the pics look excellent and the boys appear to be having a ball. tell cairo that Jack mentions him every time Dundee beat Morton (which is a pretty regular occurence), hopefully your guys will get promotion at last this season. The might ton actually put Hibs out of the league cup last night, hampden here we come….im assuming you are planning to stay in Cairo for the time being? youre missing very little back home, and would encourage you to stick with it as long as possible. If my Italian situation had become permanent then Im pretty sure we would have all moved to Italy, but it wasnt to be, so will have to settle for the clyde riveria. it would be nice to get out to see you all, however getting the time seems almost impossible at the moment. maybe sometime in 09, who knows.. salute, a doppo x BD
