Saqarra Pyramids

Me and the boys spent a morning here last Friday whilst Andy ranĀ  2 legs of the Pharaonic marathon. The site is just perfect for small legs as there are enough tombs to look inside and really just one big pyramid to walk around. We had our friend Alex and her baby girl, Eve, with us as Alex’s partner was also running 2 legs of the race. Eve is a very good baby and we all just wandered around looking at ancient tourist grafitti, huge blocks of stone and lots and lots of Egyptians.

The site was busy with Egyptian tourists and it made me realise that many places in Egypt must be visited in the same way that British people visit the Tower of London or Scots visit Edinburgh Castle. When we sat down for a snack quite a few Egyptians wanted to have their pictures taken with the boys. Cairo hated this but Lucas was quite into it – rolling his eyes and making horrible faces.

The step pyramid was quite crumbly and we were not able to go inside but it was just warm enough to wander about without getting tired. The boys were quite excited to see their first policeman on a camel.

Cairo and Lucas took part in their school show today. Lucas was an elf and Cairo was one of the narrators. It was a fun, sweet show and the boys were very good – especially as they had never been on such a big stage before.
